Magen Avot Synagogue
We’ve been lucky enough to work with several religious groups on creating stunning pieces for their spaces, and we were delighted to be asked to design this suite for a synagogue in North London. The client was very open to our design process and let us come up with this design to suit their budget and needs.
The suite consists of a tall Aron Kodesh (scroll cabinet) complete with scroll storage, locking doors, eternal light, pulley-operated curtains, and plenty of storage beneath. A large Bima (lecturn) with an angled top to read from the scrolls, a large cabinet space beneath and a innovative draw beneath the top to store the soft velvet cover within. And the final part was a set of 5 folding Metchiza screens with fold down panels, and careful design choices to enable them to fold away to a very small space.
Made from a classic blend of timbers in ash and cherry, each piece takes the stylish design theme throughout the suite. Angled elements carefully cut and placed by hand, CNC-cut design on the folding panels, precise handles with the pointed ends, and even down to the smallest detail on the bespoke castor-brackets taking the same angled detail to help it all hang together.
The synagogue committee were delighted with the work we produced for them and are now rightly proud to see their congregation grow and feel a great sense of pride for their synagogue.
